How to Kill and Prevent Fire Ants in Your Yard

May 25, 2021 -- Posted by : Thomas Pest Control

So, you have fire ants. Maybe you just discovered a mound or you've known you've had a problem but haven't been able to eradicate them. While you may be tempted to do it yourself, this is a job for the pros. If you're in the Charlotte, North Carolina area, call Thomas Pest Control to help you treat these issues. We can help you make your fire ants go away for good!

How to Treat for Fire Ants

There are a few different ways to treat fire ants, but not all have the same effectiveness. If you want to completely eliminate them, it's important to call a professional exterminator to help you decide which method will work best for your situation. Calling an exterminator shouldn't be your last resort - make it your first!

The most effective control programs incorporate the use of bait products and/or broadcast applications of insecticides. At Thomas Pest Control, we offer two programs to help you regain control over your fire ant problem. One will provide control for up to one year and the other will give you control for the season.

Below, we'll describe our two treatment plans we offer and what you can expect when you call Thomas Pest Control to help you treat and prevent fire ants.

Annual Protection

The annual protection treatment plan is going to be your most effective choice. We can help you control fire ants for up to a full year, and we completely guarantee our work. If you were to find any more ants after we treat your property, we will come back for free to treat any re-infestation.

For our annual treatment plan, we apply Topchoice® insecticide to the affected areas to control existing colonies and prevent any new infestations. We use a non-bait insecticide that only needs to be applied once per year.

Seasonal Protection

Our seasonal protection treatment is more budget-friendly while still effectively treating your fire ant infestation for a season. We use Advion Fire Ant Bait to keep your infested area free from aggressive and invasive fire ants. With this option, we will come to your home for two consecutive applications about 3 months apart. Advion bait works very quickly, but it will only last for a couple of months at a time. Our seasonal protection plan does not come with a year-long guarantee, but it works great for a few months when fire ants are typically "in season" and giving you trouble.

Prevention for Fire Ants

Once you eliminate the fire ants, there are simple things you can do to prevent them from coming back. Make sure to keep outdoor and indoor areas cleaned and kept up with regular maintenance. Eliminate any standing water around your home and remove any access to food. Nearby food and water will encourage ants to build a mound near them.

Of course, some of our treatment plans come with a 1-year guarantee, so you don't have to worry. We always recommend scheduling a regular pest control service to keep an eye on your property and make sure all pests have been eliminated. Trust the professionals at Thomas Pest Control to take care of your fire ant problems.
